Zillergrund

Difficulty: medium/red . Total duration: 4 h . Total distance: 35 km . Ascent: 830 hm

Magnificent view and breathtaking panorama, end point at the foot of the imposing dam wall!

Route no. 473 takes its origin directly at the Europahaus in Mayrhofen. From here, head towards Brandberg on a gorge road into the Zillergrund. Along the asphalt road, you pass the Gasthof Zillergrund on the right until you reach the toll station. The traffic-calmed road leads straight ahead into the valley. On the way are the "Gasthaus Klaushof" and the "Häusling Alm", which invite you to take a 'Rastl'. After about ten kilometres, you pass the Häusling Inn, the Maria Schnee Chapel and one of several power stations. The route continues into the valley until the Sundergrund, a side valley of the Zillergrund, opens up on the right-hand side. Here you have another opportunity to stop at the "Gasthaus In der Au". After two hairpin bends, it is only a few metres until you reach the Bärenbadalm snack station. Once there, you have a unique view of the mighty dam wall.

Return along the same path.

Tip: If you are not yet too exhausted, you have the option of following route no. 474 from the Bärenbadalm, up the dam wall and to the Hohenaualm. There you can enjoy further impressive views.
