Innsbruck: From the Hofburg to the Golden Roof

In the heart of the Alps, the most diverse cultures of historical epochs and scenic attractions meet in a unique way. The city has many sights - the "Goldenes Dachl" in the beautiful old town is not to be missed.

Innsbruck's most famous landmark shines in the heart of the old town. 2,657 fire-gilded copper shingles give the oriel its name. For over 500 years, the building has been enthroned between medieval houses and shady arcades. Its builder, Emperor Maximilian, enjoyed the view: He observed the hustle and bustle of his city, watched jousting tournaments and paid homage.

Visitors see the shimmering Golden Roof as soon as they enter the Old Town. However, it is also worth taking a closer look, because its base is richly decorated. All kinds of figures and representations adorn the building. Among them are many curiosities.
