Peter Habeler Summit ascent from the Edelhütte

wanderer1

Total duration: 3 h . Total distance: 2.7 km . Ascent: 700 hm . Descent: 700 hm

Leave the Edelhütte (2,238m) and hike along the very well-marked trail over some serpentines to a plateau at approx.

2.400 m. Always with the summit in sight, there is now a steep passage over many hairpin bends. The trail markings are clearly visible on stones or small wooden posts. At an altitude of about 2,650 m, the well-laid-out trail leads to the right over large rock slabs and scree to the Silbersattel (Popbergschneide, 2,700 m). This is where the difficult part of the summit ascent begins. You manage the remaining 300 metres of altitude via the west ridge to the almost 3,000-metre-high mountain. Do not be put off by the many ascent options and follow the trail markings closely. You will finally reach the south summit of the Ahornspitze via large stone slabs. Now descend a few metres towards the north. The most dangerous spot here is secured with a steel rope. From the small saddle it is only a few metres to the summit.

The summit of the 2,973m high elevation is particularly inspiring due to the impressive distant view of the surrounding three-thousand- metre peaks as well as the beautiful landscapes of the Zillertal. When descending, pay particular attention to falling rocks, which are a very serious danger.
